Malaga airport is situated 8km southwest of the city centre. The airport has undergone a large amount of redevelopment in order to deal with the 12 million passengers visiting the Costa del sol and surrounding areas in recent years. It currently has two terminals, the newest being the Picasso terminal, which is the primary terminal for passenger arrivals and departures. A third terminal is under construction and due to be completed in 2008.

Arrivals are situated on the ground floor of the Picasso terminal (2). Departures are located on the upper floor of this building with the usual range of shopping facilities.

The number 19 bus service runs every 30 minutes between the airport and the city centre bus station. It costs €1 and takes about 20 minutes. Another coach service runs directly between Marbella bus station and the airport taking approximately 45 minutes and costs about €3.70.

Directly outside the arrivals hall is the taxi rank. The fare for a standard four-seater vehicle into Malaga city centre is around €12-15 depending on where in the city you need to go. From the airport to Nerja it can cost between €65-80. Although much more expensive than the bus, there are nearly always vehicles ready to takes you as soon as you leave the airport terminal.

The reliable Cercanías Málaga train run every 30 minutes between the airport, Malaga city centre and Fuengirola. Tickets cost no more than €1.20 to Malaga city centre and €1.90 to Fuengirola.
